I am writing this letter as a “hard truth” attempt to offer a bit of clarity, and, God-willing, knock some sense into your perturbed mind— and maybe provide affirmation that brighter days are ahead if you can strip away bullshit excuses & self-sabotage, and accept the truth.
Please understand we are squarely in the age of flexible on-demand options to earning income. The allure of freedom & flexibility has been the driver of adoption for people looking to supplement or replace their traditional income in the #gigeconomy. Workers are no longer forced to be beholden to a single business and the schedule rigidity that comes with that. Though foodservice is quite nomadic, the reality is over ⅔ of these workers have been forced to juggle multiple employers (rigid schedules) to make ends meet out of necessity, and most are still falling short. The majority of these people are under-banked using pre-paid debit cards, with no true benefits or safety net to speak of, so can you blame them for laughing at your “We’re Hiring!” post on Facebook or making fun of you on TikTok? (funny because it’s true)😅
